Eine Art Chansons is a song cycle by Austrian composer Friedrich Cerha. He set texts from the Wiener Gruppe, a Viennese poetry and art movement in the 1950s and 60s. These poems are seriously out there- shape poetry, soundscapes, transcribed Austrian dialects (which, believe me, sound as funny as they look on paper). So when Cerha set these poems to music, he dug deep and created 72 completely unique characters. Each piece has its own little universe, a tiny, shining moment of weirdness.
For the first time ever, a woman is tackling all 72 of the songs in Eine Art Chansons. These songs require Agnes to do everything from full operatic singing to yelling to very courteously addressing the audience in an earnest voice.
