Dear audience,
dear friends,

the self-description on our website essentially says that we like to engage with opposing positions. With our participation in the (three-day) Fritz Pauer Personale at Vienna's Porgy & Bess and the revival of the Xenakis Machine project, we clearly provide proof of this claim: here the Austrian jazz legend, there the avant-gardist of the avant-gardists.

But even in our new program with very current music, the contrasts couldn't be greater. Below we announce the radio broadcast with music by and with Ingrid Laubrock and Lukas König, together with the sound artist Victoria Shen. This program can be heard at Wien Modern on November 14th. Fritz Pauer – From the Past into the Future
On the occasion of the 80th birthday of the Austrian jazz pianist, composer and jazz educator Fritz Pauer (1943 - 2012), a three-day retrospective of his extensive musical oeuvre will take place. Former musical companions and outstanding artists of the younger generation approach the interpretation and arrangements of Pauer's compositions from their subjective artistic perspective.

Xenakis Machine
The computer program FSM (Free Stochastic Music) developed by Iannis Xenakis in 1962—considered the first European composition program —is being revived by Studio Dan. Xenakis released the code of the program in his book Formalized Music and expressly encouraged other composers to use it. However, as an old Fortran program, it can only be decrypted by computer scientists. This role is taken on by Christof Ressi, who, as a composer and music IT specialist, has the ideal qualifications for this project. Melanie Hollaus produced a short film about the Xenakis Machine.
