In September 2025, we launch Being Karl Dieter – a full-length music theatre piece by and with Thomas Wally. The composer is also known to radio listeners from the Ö1 programme Neue Musik auf der Couch, in which iconic works of contemporary music are subjected to a listener-friendly analysis.

In Being Karl Dieter, the focus is now on a fictional piece, with references to other fictional works by Thomas Mann, Haruki Murakami, and Virginia Woolf. The boundaries between composition and analysis blur—or sound almost indistinguishably alike. Layers of meaning, illusions, and mirror reflections all play their part. With mischievous delight, Thomas Wally—composer, performer, and master of ceremonies all in one—invites us to take a peek at the decidedly unorthodox twists and turns of his mind.
