Studio Dan

Decadence is the refusal to be moderate, anti classicism, hybridity. The latest album of the 18-member ensemble Studio Dan which combines even strings and more wood winds than brass makes it clear that the term is conceived positively. What at first sounds like trying to quickly catch up or the Jazz post-modernism of the early 1990s, is developing into a multifaceted tour-de-force that combines funky big-band jazz, tricky beats or garnished with crispy electronic chamber music, without falling into ironic “eyes blinking” (“Zwinkerzwang”). Modest, only the fools!
