Studio Dan

At first glance, there seem to be few obvious aesthetic connections between Pauline Oliveros (1932–2016)—electronic music pioneer, composer, accordionist, and inventor of "Deep Listening"—and Daniel Riegler, founder of Studio Dan, trombonist, and composer. Apart from those ties that the ensemble, through Riegler’s direction, has formed with many representatives of the American avant-garde, their paths seem distinct. An evening of contrasts? Perhaps.

However, the theme of the evening is a celebration of our ensemble's 20th anniversary—Ceremony! Pauline Oliveros' sonic meditation instructions will guide us to a higher state of consciousness in the first part of the ceremony. In the second part, Daniel Riegler, composing for his Studio Dan, will deliver a jubilant musical response to the question: "Who cares if we don't care?"
