Studio Dan

On May 23, 2025, Kristin Norderval and the Ensemble Studio Dan will meet for the first time as part of the Studio Sessions at the Westbahnstudios in Vienna. Norderval combines extended vocal techniques with custom-designed live electronic setups, focusing on improvisational, process-based, and performative approaches. This encounter with Studio Dan expands her work with voice and electronics to include the possibilities of an instrumental ensemble with extensive expertise in both improvisation and composition.

Kristin Norderval (*1957) is a Norwegian-American composer, vocalist, and improviser specializing in new works for voice, chamber opera, interdisciplinary projects, and interactive technologies. Her career spans both vocal performance and composition, with collaborations including Oslo Sinfonietta, the Philip Glass Ensemble, Netherlands Dance Theater, and the San Francisco Symphony.
