Studio Dan

Chapter '17

-

Part 3

Hohner

The last trimester of the year 2017 and thus the last part of our chapter '17 we have ushered in with “Music for 4”. On a late-night evening in the magical Töpfelhaus, the ZMV (center for music education) in Penzing gathered an exceptionally curious audience as part of its concert series. A great start!

No less beautiful then our concert at the JazzWerkstatt Wien- "Nordic Walk", which we have opened with HOMO FABER in Künstlerhaus 1050. HOMO FABER, the piece for three string instruments and trombone, has now finally arrived in our repertoire. Now we are looking forward to the accompanying double CD with detailed booklet, which we are currently producing together with Krüger & Pardeller. As a place for the presentation on 1 December, we chose Raimund Abraham's Austrian Cultural Forum in New York. Also quite suitable, as we think. ;-)

But before that, we are looking forward to “Breaking News”. Finally the time has come and we are studying the brand new scores of Oxana Omelchuk and George Lewis. “Wow and Flutter” (Omelchuk) features Matthias Muche and Daniel Riegler as trombone soloists with ensemble, and “As We May Feel” (Lewis) invites the entire ensemble to the tour de force. The whole thing will be live for the first time at the "musikprotokoll” at the "Steirischer Herbst” in Graz (5.10.). We may feel excited!

The third composer, commissioned in the year 2017, is Christian F. Schiller. He developed his new piece from experiments with a harmonica ("Hohner Comet"), which he inherited from his grandfather. With an additional exact duplicate of the instrument on hand, the composition is now written for two harmonicas and ensemble. And of course the ensemble is called Studio Dan.

So we are soon at the end of the year (and this slightly longer post) because Christian Schiller's work will be premiered as part of our long-planned concert trip to Canada and the USA.

In nine days we will travel to Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and New York, bringing both world premieres and North American premieres into the new world. All this in November and December. More information here. And in secret places of the WorldWideWeb.

With the music of Julius Eastman at the Unsafe + Sounds Festival and a new fanfare by Daniel Riegler for the Dommuseum Wien, we finally complete our concert calendar 2017. The rest of the time we're already spending with the planning for the next months. Nobody's going to get bored!
