Elliott Sharp, an American multi-instrumentalist and composer of the New York avant-garde scene, composed the eleven-part “In the Pelagic Zone”, commissioned by the Austrian ensemble Studio Dan. In November 2011, the piece was premiered by 14 players of group as part of a small tour. The live recording (ORF/Ö1) of the world premiere at Vienna’s Porgy & Bess is now available on CD and was released by JazzWerkstatt Records.
