In The Pelagic Zone
feat. Elliott Sharp
Our last project in 2011 was dedicated to working with Elliott Sharp. The Jeunesse Vienna hired the ensemble to work with him on a program within his artist in residency in Vienna. For this, Studio Dan has commissioned a piece to the New York guitarist, saxophonist, improviser, conceptionist, and of course composer. To our great pleasure this was also supported by a grant from the Ernst-von-Siemens Music Foundation.
Working with Elliott proved to be extremely friendly and efficient (so rare to experience a quick and complete e-mail correspondence). In the summer of 2011, at a meeting with Elliott in Saalfelden the details for “In the Pelagic Zone” were fixed.
In the rehearsal period shortly before the premiere the final uncertainties were gone. Finally, let´s make music together! The great mutual respect, Elliotts exact visions, and the as always well prepared and highly predisposed band have brought the work to a climax in the young history of our ensemble.
In agreement with Elliott we are planning future concerts, we also think about a CD release of the program. For now, there are a few impressions of the program.
